Earlier this year, Australian-Kenyan pop soul songstress Okenyo shared “Just A Story,” the bright lead single from her forthcoming Mirage EP. Now, the musician unveils the track’s Brooklyn-shot music video. Directed by European Union Film Award-winning writer/director Laura Scrivano, the video powerfully illustrates the song’s tale of a troubled relationship. Okenyo narrates and watches the dissolution between young lovers, the poignant drama unfolding in (mostly) one uninterrupted long take. Talking with CLASH, Scrivano cites Michel Gondry as an influence on the music video and, reflecting on it, the viewer may recall the darkly comic heartbreak of the director’s Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Ending with Okenyo looking at a pink Manhattan skyline under the Brooklyn Bridge, though, the visuals elegantly express the inner warmth of “Just A Story.”
